Abstract

Higher education in Indonesia has been experiencing many challenges regarding academic integrity. The situation has become more problematic since the launch of ChatGPT. University stakeholders fear the prospect of more cases of plagiarism being added and the possibility of academicians and students losing their ability to think critically. Ethics are needed to regulate the use of ChatGPT, and the proposed digital ethics model must meet the needs and situations of Indonesian academicians. An interpretive approach with descriptive study case methods was used with data collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussion with academicians. The results showed that digital ethics should be applied when using ChatGPT, focusing more on its users. This was important irrespective of the requests from users to provide adequate statements regarding the information they hold. From the data obtained, the proposed digital ethics model was divided into three categories: searching for information, using the information received, and addressing claims in scientific articles intended for publication.
