Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify high school teachers' attitudes towards the goals that had they set in their environmental education programs, as well as to study the dependence of the goals on the characteristics of teachers (gender, studies, and training in environmental education). As a data collection research tool, a written questionnaire designed specifically for the purposes of research was used. This questionnaire was completed by 51 teachers from 21 randomly selected schools. The analysis of these results showed that the teachers' most popular goal was the study of the natural environment and sustainable development. The teachers' primary educational goal was tο promote positive attitudes to the natural environment among their students. As a primary pedagogical technique, they used teamwork. Finally, it was found that the level of teachers' training positively correlated with the degree of use of the teaching technique “connecting everyday life with school life.”
