Abstract

Creativity in art and design and creativity of political, economic, and social governance in contemporary China are intertwined in generating and developing rapid art communities. The diversity of these art communities, from the avant-garde in Songzhuang to the poetic in Xiangshan, is not resulted merely from the movements initiated by these artists and designers nor the reform policies of the government alone. It is the interplay between these two creative forces that cultivated new forms of authenticity to emerge in time. The expanded inclusiveness of art and art communities has not only been a globalized phenomenon, influenced by the world art networks, but also been spontaneously stimulated by the dynamics of localized circumstances, together, shaping the evolving contemporary communal and urban environments.
