Abstract

This study intends to explore the multicultural education content included in the selected Education Policies in India since independence. Seven policy documents critically impacting the Indian education system were selected for the analysis. Documents selected are National Education Policies 1968, 1986, and 2020. National Curriculum Frameworks (NCF) 1975, 1988, 2000, and 2005 were also studied along with national education policies. Conceptual content analysis was carried out to identify multicultural themes in these selected educational policies. The study’s findings show that the selected policy documents had not adequately addressed multiculturalism. The study concludes that being a highly diverse nation, this underrepresentation will seriously impact the multicultural education environment in the education system.
