Abstract

The aim of this study is to focus on two fundamental objectives: The first is to take stock of the link between the psychological contract and engagement of the military personnel of the National Republican Guard (GNR or Guard hereafter). The second is to try to understand how the Psychological Contract has an impact on Engagement. Regarding this, the Psychological Contract was analyzed based on seven dimensions of the employee, five dimensions regarding the organization, and three regarding the relationship between both, considering the existing types of contracts: Transactional, Transitional, Relational, and Balanced contracts. Moreover, Engagement was analyzed in three dimensions: vigor, absorption, and dedication. The data was obtained through the application of a questionnaire that was distributed to all GNR military personnel. Our sample had 592 individuals, and data analyses show that the predominant type of contract in the Guard is the Transitional Contract, and that the variable that most impacts Engagement is the professional category. The results clearly state that there are differences between the various professional categories, in terms of both the psychological contract and engagement. This study may be the starting point for a more in-depth investigation of this topic within the GNR, to substantially improve the service provided to citizens by considering psychological well-being and the willingness to serve as a military professional.
