Autoethnography of an Australian Collegiate Golfers Journey of Identity, Culture and Adaptation to the USA

Abstract

This is a reflective introspection from the viewpoint of an elite female collegiate golfer who has transitioned from Australia to the USA. It includes: an exploration of the culture of: coaching; sport; society; academic; interpersonal relations and the implications they have posed to the core principles and idealistic differences, and values of athletes; unique personal perspectives and observations of the trials and tribulations of moving half-way around the world to go to college and play sport in a foreign country; and the psychological impact of a loss of, or change in identity as well as a complete disruption of personal community are discussed.
